Medicare Pay-for-Reporting Program: Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) Resources for 2009

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released information on the Medicare 2009 PQRI program. The agency will release additional details throughout the year because of the complexity of the program. Physicians who successfully report on quality measures in 2009 will receive a 2% bonus payment, up from the 1.5% bonus that was in effect for each reporting period since the program started in July 2007.

ACP provides the resources below to assist members with this relatively new and complex program. The resources are meant to provide information pertaining to the program and assist those interested in participating. While many internists who have participated in the program have experienced problems and frustration, the PQRI program is in place for 2009 and it will almost certainly remain a component of the Medicare program in subsequent years.

On March 4, 2009 ACP held a webinar providing an overview of the PQRI 2009 program and highlighted resources to assist in participation. The presentations also addressed CMS improvements to make participating more viable and discussed the need for future refinements.
