"Patient Safety Take-Home Points" mailed to ACP members across the country
This summer, Patient Safety: The Other Side of the Equation initiated a new method of taking patient safety to physicians nation-wide. Approximately 5,000 copies of the project's booklet, Patient Safety: Take-Home Points, were sent to physicians in Iowa, Utah, Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Minnesota, and Arizona. These states were selected because they had completed participation in a research study of patient safety attitudes, also a part of the College's patient safety program.
Patient Safety: Take-Home Points summarizes the information presented in the College's seven patient safety modules. These modules, which have been presented at Chapter meetings, ACP Annual Session, grand rounds and residency programs around the country, focus on seven aspects of ambulatory care: systems research, medication errors, office design, communication, the role of the patient, computers, and cognition. These topics are addressed in this website's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
More states will be receiving Patient Safety: Take-Home Points in the coming year. If you would like to bring a Patient Safety: The Other Side of the Quality Equation module to your next Chapter meeting, contact your ACP Chapter Governor or Program Committee Chair.
