The second edition of The Report of the Federated Council for Internal Medicine (FCIM) Task Force on the Internal Medicine Residency Curriculum

Resource Guide to Curriculum DevelopmentThis report is a resource to help an individual residency program to design a curriculum that fits its resources and responds to the aspirations of its residents and faculty, helping programs improve through the medium of curriculum.

Note: You must have Microsoft Excel 2000 Installed on your PC in order to utilize this software. In addition, to view the full text of the curriculum guide, you must also have a current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program) installed.

This resource allows a program director to use Interactive Tables (Excel spreadsheets) to plan a curriculum. The spreadsheets list the competencies suggested by panels of national experts. Program directors, by using drop down menus, checkmarks, and dates, can prioritize the competencies, indicate the preferred learning sites, clinical rotations, and evaluation methodologies, and document the dates of didactic presentations. In completing the grids, the local curriculum committees will, in effect, be creating subject-specific mini-curricula that can serve both as a planning document and evidence of curriculum planning for accreditation site visits. For more information on how to use the Interactive Tables, review the concise "Users Guide," and Chapters 5 and 6, both located within the Resource Guide.

For detailed information on how to install and get started with the FCIM Resource Guide tool, view online Help.
