Medicaid & SCHIP
Medicaid is the federal government health insurance program for eligible individuals with low incomes. The program is jointly funded by the federal and state governments; each state individually runs its own Medicaid program and sets its own guidelines. One of the most popular programs under Medicaid is the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). SCHIP provides health insurance to eligible children whose families for make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to be able to afford private insurance.
